Guided Wanderings

Developing the self of the therapist through the critical examination of internal, interpersonal, and external racism, ableism, sexism, heteronormativity, colonialism, and oppression

Home: Welcome

Welcome

I invite you to explore my site to learn more about how I view social work, healing, and professional development. While you are exploring, pay attention to your how your body, mind, and spirit are responding to all the things.

Those who work with me are dedicated to the liberation of all people, including themselves. They recognize, resist , and transform their iterations of racism, ableism, sexism, heteronormativity, colonialism, and oppression. They have a sense of humor, intuition, and curiosity. They encourage themselves to think deeply about who they are and how they show up. They embrace feedback by listening, digesting, and moving forward. They are often practitioners of anti-oppressive practice, culturally responsive care, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction.

Developing the Professional Self

As a supervisor/consultant, I shine in certain areas.

My favorite area of conversation is how the professional affects the personal, how the personal affects the professional, and how to move through these confusing dynamics. Racism, sexism, ableism, heteronormativy, colonialism, and oppression all play their part in this confusion. We can walk through this together and find ways to recognize, resist, and transform these multiple socializations.

While I am very helpful in logistical areas, I'm more interested in finding out the "whys". For example, for those of you who are struggling with your time management, I'm able to walk with you through some options to manage your schedule, but I'm more interested in learning more about how you care about yourself.

Workplace relationships can lead to comfort and happiness, though this doesn't seem to be the common experience. I enjoy listening to the complex systems that are present in organizations and find a way to have conversation, negotiation, and movement through these dynamics.

A little about me...

My name is Perri (they/them) (why I list my pronouns). I am a compassionate educator, a trauma therapist, and a caring mother to humans and cats. I enjoy the outdoors and indoors. I enjoy solitude and being in the company of humorous and caring friends.

I have been working in mental health since 2005. My experience ranges from residential treatment to private practice. My clinical practice focuses on trauma recovery. I am a social work faculty member at MSU Denver.

My academic research focuses on creating trauma-informed college and university classrooms, in an effort to counter the domination and oppression faced by so many students. My hope is to organize colleges and universities in a way that students are more prepared to continue their journey as healers.

My social work foundation: a culturally responsive, liberatory, relational, restoration centered approach to micro, mezzo, and macro systems.

Offerings & Financial Contribution

I believe in reducing the barriers to quality and compassionate supervision, consultation, and education. I've spent time thinking about my financial privilege, and what I can afford to pay forward. I formally practice this by offering a sliding scale for financial contributions. Read more in this blog post.

If you are looking for more financially accessible offerings, please check out the Allies for Change resource guide.
